This live recording captured September 2019 at the iconic KING EDDY in Calgary represents pianist Brian Buchanan’s return to the stage. Diagnosed with cancer in early 2019 Brian went through a series of traumatic events and subsequent treatment that threatened to keep him from returning to his performing career or even just playing piano.

Along with the efforts and initiative of friend and Calgary Bluesfest producer Cindy McLeod in organizing this live concert event, it was suggested by the National Music Center to record the performance. Brian assembled his Alberta Trio including Edmonton bassist John Taylor and drummer Sandro Dominelli for the show. The recording was done by producer Ian Dillon on the remote recording truck that for many years belonged to the Rolling Stones and which is now a fixture of the NMC and King Eddy in Calgary.

The ‘sold out’ evening was a special moment and personal career highlight for Brian with many family and friends in attendance to support and encourage him on his return to the stage. There was an atmosphere of love in the air.

The seven tracks on this album were drawn from the music recorded that evening and include a sampling of material Brian felt most comfortable performing after many months away from the piano.

Brian has performed with artists including Clark Terry, Mark Murphy, and Herb Ellis.
